REVIEW: Sony Cyber-shot DCS-RX10 IV Camera

Albeit it’s only been about a week since getting my hands on the Sony RX10 IV but it’s been night and day compared to the results I was getting with the Nikon Z7.

It’s true that the Nikon Z7 is for more advance photographers and maybe that’s why I had trouble with it.  Or maybe it was because I bought the camera “refurbished” and it had some issues when I bought.  In the end, returning the Z7 was the right call because I’m loving the RX10 IV.

One of the main reasons why I bought this camera because of all the positive reviews it has gotten that I read on the internet.  But, the review that really convinced me was the one that I read on Ken Rockwell’s website (kenrockwell.com).  If you’re in a pinch and can’t decide on what camera to get, I would head on over to Ken’s website and do some research on his site.  He gives good honest reviews on most cameras.

Now back to the camera, I’ve pretty much stuck to Ken’s recommendations and left the camera in the “auto” position”.  However, I’ve been getting good use out of the “SCN” position especially when I need to photograph fast moving objects like bees and birds.

The camera takes amazing photos and what I’ve seen with the video, it’s definitely a winner in my book.  I do have a confession, my first real camera was the Panasonic DC-GH5 and while that camera had unfortunate issue with the “autofocus”, the video quality is top notched especially for a micro-four thirds camera.  I’ll probably miss that the most with the GH5.  Actually, as of writing this, all videos posted on this website were shot with the GH5.

Eventually I’ll start posting some pictures that I’ve captured using the RX10 IV.

More to come…..

Update: 2/24/2020

It seems when taking photos through a glass window or door, images tend to come out looking blurry and noisy.  However, the online manual does refer to this issue when using auto focus.

Update: 10/26/2020

I’m getting tired of getting so-so pictures and will try and sell this camera.  I might replace with just using a new iPhone 12 Pro.

Update: 3/5/2022

I recently re-purchased this camera because all other camera that I tried were getting worse results then this camera.  No other camera on the market has the zoom capabilities and picture quality compared to this camera, so I’m going to be sticking with this one until I either win the lottery and I can buy a more professional camera or I find a job that pays me a lot of money.

Final update:

As of 12/18/2022, I no longer have the camera.  I eventually sold it because I needed the money.
